STEREOPHONIC MUSIC in HINDI MOVIES before 90s

Listening to great music by R.D. Burman in track ‘pyaar mein dil pe maar de goli’ from movie Mahaan ( the recording is such that one can feel ‘goli’ traversing across brain through ears ) , i always wonder , who was the pioneer of stereophonic ( separate recording over left & right channels ) music in hindi movies ? Was it Pancham or LP or someone else ? Which musician composed first ever stereophonic track for hindi movie ?

Among all the original HMV , MIL hindi movie audio cassettes and genuine audio CDs i’ve heard , i’ve found that the tracks of movie ‘Jal bin machhli nritya bin Bijli’ were stereophonic for the first time. Year of release was 1971 and music was by Lakshmikant-Pyarelal. The popular tracks being ‘taaro mein saj ke’ by Mukesh and title song by Lataji.

( Any stereophonic hindi movie track,before 1971 ? Please let me know ! )

  1. The stereophony found in Kalyanji-Anandji's music can be credited to Kalyanji's younger brother Babla and Kalyanji's son Viju Shah. They both worked as players, assistant music directors and music arrangers for the K-A duo, and they gave modern touch to K-A's music. Remember the stereophonic 'Roto-drum' roll-over in the begining of the song 'Laila mein laila' (Movie : Qurbaani) ? It is played by Babla.

  2. Update :
A booklet in universal CD claims "The first Indian film in 70mm, technicolor and stereophonic sound was "AROUND THE WORLD" , produced in the year 1967."
Watched that movie in Shemaroo VCD , but its soundtrack is damn mono. Listening its songs from original HMV product is pending.

  4. No offense to the original writer, but the ultimate bosses in the genre were Anil Biswas and C.Ramchandra, followed by the giants like Naushad, Madan Mohan, Chitragupta, S.D. Burman, and, of course, who can forget all the innovative songs that Shankar Jaikishan created for Lata and Rafi ???
